Private Pilot ACS SmartStudy Pro Update

For those of you waiting for our newest product to be released o can tell you that only 3 of 42 video/audio lessons remain to be recorded and edited. So we anticipate its full release in June.

This product steps you through all of the knowledge and risk management elements of every task in the Private Pilot ACS. It is intended to be used as audio without the need for video. So the narration has to be more descriptive because you may be driving or in a situation where you can’t look at a screen.

The product was designed to make the drive to the airport and back, or any other idle time to be useful in preparing for the Private Pilot checkride. It can also be used to prepare for lessons at the flight school ahead of time or to recap a lesson.

This course does have video as we were recording it anyway, but we don’t rely on the video to be on. Nice if you are in a space where you can though.

Each lesson also has a companion PDF with supporting images, notes on occasion, and for some lessons like performance and limitations with worked examples. The companion PDFs are intended to support the audio once you are in a place where you can use your computer or mobile device to view content.

The product should be around 12 hours or so and there are around 42 or so lessons that range from 10-35 minutes. Great for driving etc.

This product contains an audio/visual lesson for every area of operation and task in the Private Pilot Airplane Single Engine Land ACS including the ground topics and the flight maneuvers.

You can opt-in to get this product ½ off the list price once it is released. You’ll get a separate email when it’s released with the ½ off offer, but you need to be on the opt-in list to get it. Click the link below to join the list. You do t need to buy it once it is released if you change your mind. There isn’t any obligation or payment required to join the list.

Finally—FAA knowledge made simple, skimmable, and instructor-ready.

We’ve taken the FAA’s dense Aviation Instructor’s Handbook and turned it into something instructors and students can actually use. Each chapter has been distilled into concise, easy-to-digest summaries packed with real-world application, checkride-ready insights, and bullet-point clarity.

Aviation Instructor's Handbook Summaries

What You'll Get:

  • Summarized chapters that save time while preserving depth

  • Instructor-ready language for lesson prep, CFI checkride review, or classroom use

  • Built-in FAA references for quick lookups and full context

  • Visual callouts, mnemonics, and examples to reinforce learning

Who It's For:

  • CFI candidates trying to master FOI topics before the checkride

  • Active instructors wanting a faster way to refresh key concepts

These summaries are part of our push to modernize how CFIs teach and learn—whether you're in the classroom, in a briefing room, or prepping the night before a lesson.

CFI Study Group on Facebook Group

There is a Facebook Group called CFI Study Group that’s worth joining. There are around 8000 members. Many are CFIs in training and many are mentor CFIs that can answer questions. The group is free to join.

They also have a Zoom meeting from 4-6 Pacific time on Tuesdays that is open to ask questions or present a lesson. The format is usually open dialog but sometimes there is a guest speaker or dedicated topic.

It’s free to join and so are the Tuesday Zoom meetings. There are several posts a day asking for specific advice, regulations, endorsements, checkride preparation, and more.

Dorthy Shick is the main admin of the group. She is based in Eugene Oregon and usually hosts the Tuesday Zoom call. She is a very experienced flight instructor as are many in the group.

  1. Try the new ForeFlight feature in the Maps view. Using the layers menu, select Cameras. That will place camera icons on the map view showing the FAA installed camera at many airports and mountain passes. The cameras are real-time views.

  2. Set multiple tops of climb in ForeFlight. On the FPL area choose profile. Tsp on a waypoint that you want to either cross or be at a particular altitude. Choose cross at or start at and input the altitude. ForeFlight will use the performance data from your selected aircraft and provide a new top of climb. Note - the initial altitude in the left part of the FPL box must be the lowest altitude.

  3. ForeFlight makes a passenger version so passengers can follow along with their flight. You can also share your flight plan with other ForeFlight users by text, email, or Airdrop. On the FPL box choose the share button. Then choose share FPL. There will be options to text, email, and Airdrop(if using an Apple device).  The other person will get a link to click. That will put your flight plan on their device.
